Diamond Engagement Ring Purchasing Tips

Diamond Engagement Ring Clarity

Diamond engagement ring clarity refers to the purity of the diamond. A very high quality diamond engagement ring would have none or very very little impurities. These impurities in the diamond are called inclusions. Inclusions can be little dark bits trapped inside the diamond as it was formed. The inclusions maybe solid or liquid or even in a gaseous phase, giving the diamond engagement ring a less than optimal appearance.

I have had the opportunity to buy a diamond engagement ring that had a 1.5 carat diamond in it for a fraction of what a high quality diamond engagement ring would be worth, all because the diamond had an inclusion the size of a snowflake inside.

Priorities in selecting a sparkling diamond engagement ring

The number one tip for buying a sparkling diamond betrothal ring is to look for one with the optimum cut, and little inclusions, with a good to very good color. Since color is only noticeable when the diamond ring is very discolored it runs third in the list of priorities when selecting a diamond engagement ring, but we will get into color selection a little later on.

Back to the topic at hand, minimizing the impact of inclusions in your diamond engagement ring. Not all inclusions are created equal. If you can get a diamond with inclusions off to the side where you cannot see it very easily by staring down the top of the diamond engagement ring you may be able to save a little money without sacrificing the look of the diamond ring. The problem is that the jeweler will know his to so your discount will not be as high as if there was an inclusion in that is clearly visible.

The proper terms and abbreviations for inclusions are I for inclusions, SI for slight inclusions, VSI for very slight inclusions and VVSI for very very slight inclusions.
